Rail journey times from London to Luxembourg, Frankfurt and Stuttgart in Germany, Basel in Switzerland & French cities have been slashed by 2007's new high-speed service.
The new TGV Est Europeén train lines comes into effect on June 10th, 2007, and the fastest train in the world will slash rail travel times from Paris, France to cities across the country and Europe. Cities such as Nancy, Reims and Metz in France, Basel and Zurich in Switzerland, Frankfurt and Munich in Germany and Luxembourg’s beautiful capital will all be a lot closer.
Some journey times on the TGV (which means Train a Grande Vitesse, or High-Speed Train) will be cut by almost half, and the reductions should mean that the train is a viable alternative to cheap flights. For visitors coming from London, it is now feasible to get to Germany, Switzerland or Luxembourg by train, combining a trip on the TGV Est Europeén from Paris Est station with the Eurostar from Waterloo (and soon St Pancras) station in London to Paris Nord.
