Backpacking in Thailand is something on many people's "to do" list. In fact, whilst researching Thailand's top five festivals and events - http://south-asia-china-cultural-events.... - I just wanted to head on out there, and may well do so in December.

For those who have been, are there any particular travel routes you'd recommend (say, going from Bangkok to Ko Samui) or places to stay in cities like Chiang Mai, Phuket and Sukhotai?
